Validity and scientific context

A Committee of experts in watchmaking has validated every question. The FHH has also called on an external consultant, Assess Group, in evaluation science to ensure that the exam questionnaire tests relevant knowledge, and that results are scientifically valid and accurate.

Each question is the result of a five-stage process:

  1. Experts in watchmaking write the question
  2. Experts in watchmaking validate the content of the question
  3. Specialists in evaluation science validate the question
  4. Proofreading
  5. Translation

For the Watch Expert Test:

The exam lasts 2 hours and takes place on the date and at the venue chosen when enrolling. The 160 questions are answered using the iPad or laptop provided. Candidates are not authorized to leave the room during the exam or to use electronic devices other than those provided (mobile phone, iPad, tablet, laptop, etc.). Please refer to Examination rules.

When will I receive notification of my exam session?

Notification is sent by email, two weeks before the chosen session, with confirmation of the date, time and exam center. In the event that the exam date has to be changed, candidates who cannot sit the exam on the new date will be reimbursed their fee. There will be no other compensation.

What should I bring to the exam center?

You must bring:

  • official and valid photo ID
  • confirmation of payment (where applicable)

Candidates’ ID will be checked.

Is there more than one possible answer to a question?

There is only one correct answer to each question and therefore only one answer should be selected. Certain questions may include “None” or “All” as proposed answers. If a candidate answers “All”, this is a valid selection as it is a single answer.

What does “confidence level” refer to?

The HH Certification is a multiple-choice questionnaire. For each question, you should select what you think is the correct answer and indicate your confidence level, i.e. how certain you are that this is the correct answer.

Candidates self-evaluate the probability that they have answered correctly. This method rewards honesty and discourages random answers. The only way to score points is to answer honestly. The final score is calculated according to correct answers and confidence levels.

Examples:

  • If you answer wrongly with a confidence level indicating that you weren’t sure of the answer, you score points despite giving the wrong answer.
  • If you answer wrongly with a confidence level indicating that you were sure of the answer, you lose points.
  • If you answer correctly with a confidence level indicating that you were sure of the answer, additional points are scored.
  • Random answers can result in lost points (by not admitting to not knowing an answer).

If I can’t take the exam on the date I enrolled for, can I take it at a later date?

If you are unable to sit the exam on the chosen date, please inform the HH Certification administrator of your area by email as soon as possible.

You can change the date of your exam only in the event of force majeure. You will be asked to justify why you are unable to take the exam as scheduled. You can then enroll for another session, at no additional cost, subject to availability.

Can I cancel my enrollment for HH Certification and be refunded?

Enrollment is final once payment has been made. No refunds will be offered.

Can the exam be cancelled?

The FHH reserves the right to cancel an exam session in the event of force majeure or when fewer than 10 people are enrolled for that session. Candidates will be either refunded or enrolled for another session, at their discretion. There will be no other compensation. The FHH will inform candidates of any organizational changes as soon as possible.

What happens if someone cheats?

Any candidate who is caught cheating or attempting to cheat will have their exam cancelled, and the FHH can prevent that candidate from re-enrolling for the exam. His or her fee will not be refunded. Please refer to Examination rules.

Results

How are the HH Certification exams scored?

Please refer to Examination rules.

When will I know my score?

Results are posted online one week after the exam, in your user profile. Successful candidates receive their certificate by post at the address given in their user profile. Only the FHH can issue these certificates.

Will I get a certificate?

The FHH delivers a certificate, based on your final score.

Only candidates with a sufficiently high score receive a certificate. Please refer to Examination rules.

Can I contest my score?

The multiple-choice questionnaire means that answers are either right or wrong. Scores are therefore not open to interpretation. The confidence level gives candidates a chance to score additional points for honesty. Results are final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Can I request a copy of my certificate?

You can request a copy of your certificate if the original has been destroyed, lost or stolen. Whatever the cause of loss or destruction, you will be asked to present official documents supporting your request (e.g. insurance claim, police theft report, sworn statement). Only the FHH can issue an official printed copy of a certificate. The word “copy” will appear on the certificate. A processing and copy fee will apply.

Who else will be informed of my score?

A candidate’s information, including their exam results, remains confidential, including candidates who are enrolled for the HH Certification exam by their company. Results will only be provided to a third party with the candidate’s express authorization.
